The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has appointed Harjeet Kaur Joshi the Chairperson & Managing Director (CMD). This makes her the first-ever woman to hold that position. As of 19th December, Harjeet Kaur Joshi has become the first woman to be at the helm of affairs of India’s largest and most diversified shipping company.

As the first female to lead SCI, Harjeet Kaur Joshi has had a pretty impressive career and journey. She did her B.Com from Delhi University. Following that, she also did her post-graduate studies in Commerce at Delhi University. Joshi specialised in Financial Management. She started her career as a lecturer. However, she soon entered the corporate world in 1984. Harjeet Kaur Joshi’s career has stretched over a span of three decades. She is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD). Joshi is a fellow member of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India.

She has also won several awards for her work and commitment to it. In July 2015, she was honoured with “CMA CFO Award 2014” from The Institute of Cost Accountants of India. She was also the recipient of “The Most Influential CFOs of India Award” from Chartered Institute of Management Accounts, UK for two successive years. She also won “The Tenth India CFO Awards – Excellence in Finance to enable a Turnaround” in 2016. On 3rd of February 2018, the Forum of Women in Public Sector awarded her with the Best Woman Employee Award 1st Place (Executive Category). She was also conferred with Woman of Substance award at the 18th Sailor Today Sea Shore Awards 2019 ceremony.
