CMA A Janardhana Rao, MD, Indian Ports Association

I have been fortunate to be intimately associated with the nuances of the port sector in India over the last three decades. From my humble beginnings. I was lucky to become the youngest ever chairman of a major port of India .
I have assisted the major ports in technology, terminal operations and management , safety, environment, business development , negotiations with stakeholders, governance , laws and regulations , project appraisal and funding, tariff , labour and institutional reforms, policy formulation for flagship programs as the multi-billion $ Sagar Mala program and in several Public Private Partnership port projects .
As the competitive landscape transformed rapidly in favour of the new private ports, my role was to usher in reforms in public sector ports as the change agent and enable them to compete effectively.. My doctorate on port performance leverages on my experience in ports in India and overseas and focuses on benchmarking as a strategic tool to enhance port performance.
I have also trained senior bureaucrats at the National Academy, corporate leaders at Indian institutes of Management and spoken at maritime platforms in India and overseas.
My skills include an understanding of value drivers and value proposition in the business of ports, an ability to crystal-gaze the emerging competitive and regulatory landscape and offer strategic insights and take reasoned commercial calls, appreciate aspirations of diverse stakeholders, negotiate and build consensus among the stakeholders and enter into binding commercial contracts with them for mutual benefit and also a genuine willingness to work at the ground level in the port terminals to make results happen.
Going forward , I am keen to leverage on my wholesome experience gained in the pluralist multi cultural Indian ports in challenging assignments as turning around stressed brown field ports, conceptualising and bringing to reality green-field ports
